The official Lyon County detention page directs “Inmate Search” users to Kansas VINE rather than a sheriff-hosted roster or release archive. VINE can show an agency-reported custody signal and can support custody-change notifications. It is not a permanent certified ledger. If a name disappears, that absence cannot by itself distinguish release, transfer, a source delay, or a search mismatch.

1. Search Kansas VINE by the person’s name or supported identifier. Confirm that the reporting agency and personal details match.
2. Save the exact status wording and last-update information. If it says transferred, follow the named custodian.

4. Request the existing booking/release transaction to document the processed-out time and public disposition.

About Lyon County Detention

The current county page describes a 163-bed facility staffed by 40 trained detention officers. It houses adults detained in felony and misdemeanor matters and handles court documentation, bookings, releases, property, identification, and transports. The sheriff also identifies work or school release and trustee activity. These are operational facts, not proof that any named person received a particular release type.

The jail stands at 425 Mechanic Street in downtown Emporia. An older description places it at Fifth and Mechanic in the Law Enforcement Center. No separately advertised Emporia city jail with its own public release-record system was found. No KDOC prison, BOP institution, or dedicated ICE detention center was verified in Lyon County either. This scope does not rule out short-term holds or transfers involving another authority.

Detention Center Release Processing

Detention staff handle paperwork, property, and identification as part of booking and release. The county does not publish a fixed release hour, exit door, weekend schedule, family waiting area, or transportation plan. Call 620-341-3205 for same-day public logistics. Ask a precise question and avoid relying on a routine time pattern that the agency has not published.

Work and school release are programs named by the county, but their existence does not mean every participant has completed custody or sentence obligations. The sheriff’s published information says mail for a person no longer in jail is returned to the sender. Returned mail is not a dependable release notice. A transfer or other status change can produce the same outcome, and the facility does not forward mail as a locator service.

Detention Center Court Records

State-law felony and misdemeanor cases belong in Lyon County District Court, part of Kansas’s Fifth Judicial District. Emporia city-ordinance matters belong in Emporia Municipal Court. A person booked at Lyon County Detention Center can have either case type. Search the court that filed the charge, and check all known holds when more than one matter may control release.

The Kansas District Court Public Access Portal can show docket events for bond, plea, dismissal, judgment, sentence, probation, revocation, and later completion. A bond order supports the authority for release but not the exact minute jail staff processed the person out. Request the journal entry when a short docket label is unclear. Detention Center KDOC Transfers

KASPER covers people sentenced to KDOC custody since 1980 who are incarcerated, under post-incarceration supervision, or discharged. Search by KDOC number when known, or use name and aliases before matching birth details, physical description, conviction county, case number, and movements. “Conviction county = Lyon” identifies the source of a KDOC case. It does not prove the person now lives in Lyon County.

A KASPER status of parole, conditional release, or postrelease supervision means the person left prison while the sentence remains active. Discharge is different. The “Anticipated Release Date” is a forecast that can change due to credits, forfeitures, sentence corrections, court action, or detainers. KDOC says KASPER updates daily except weekends, so a weekend transfer or release may take time to appear.

Detention Center Photos Retention

No sheriff-hosted recent-release photo feed was verified. Request the booking photograph for the identified county booking, with the name and date range. A later KASPER photograph is a corrections image tied to the KDOC record and may not be the same image created during the Lyon County booking. A registry image applies only when Kansas registration law covers that person.

No official online release-list retention period was found. Ask the records custodian which schedule applies to booking sheets, release entries, logs, and photographs. Public access may also change after a court grants expungement or when a record is sealed or otherwise protected by law. A missing online result is therefore not proof that no detention event occurred.
